Care & Maintenance Guide for your Benchtop

  • (Such as Granite, Marble, Quartzite, Limestone, Dolomite, Travertine)

Natural stone is unique and beautiful, but it requires thoughtful care:

    Cleaning:

    • Use a soft cloth to lean surfaces with mild detergent and warm water. Always look for pH-neutral cleaners.

    • Avoid acidic cleaners (like vinegar or lemon), bleach, or abrasive pads — they can etch or damage the surface.

    Sealing:

    • Natural stones are porous and should be sealed regularly. MMG has liquid sealed your benchtops twice (while manufacturing and at installation) – Lithofin NanoTop is the solvent based protective impregnator we recommend. https://www.cdkstone.com.au/product/lithofin-nanotop/

    • Check if water beads on the surface — if not, it’s time to reseal.

    Daily Tips:

    • Wipe spills immediately, especially acidic ones (wine, citrus, tomato sauce, etc).

    • Use cutting boards to avoid scratching.

    • Use trivets under hot pots and pans.

    • Make sure that the legs of any trays or appliances have felt tips.

  • (Such as Zenith by Stone Ambassador, Caesarstone Icon, Quantum Zero, Lavistone GenSurface, etc)

    Cleaning:

    • Daily: Wipe with a damp cloth and mild dish soap.

    • For dried spills or marks, use a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft sponge.

    • Avoid harsh chemicals like oven cleaner, turpentine, or paint remover.

    Heat & Impact:

    • Although heat resistant, thermal shock can cause cracks — always use trivets for hot cookware.

    • Don’t use as a cutting surface; sharp objects can scratch the surface.

    Do Not Use:

    • No bleach, acidic, or alkaline cleaners.

    • No abrasive scouring pads.

  • Terrazzo is a composite material that behaves like natural stone in many ways:

    Cleaning:

    • Use a pH-neutral cleaner or stone-safe soap.

    • Avoid acidic or abrasive products, as they can erode the surface or alter its finish.

    Sealing:

    • Needs regular sealing to maintain stain resistance — generally every 12 months. Apply the sealing instructions from the natural stone section above.

    • Avoid soaking the surface with water or cleaner — damp mopping is enough.

    Maintenance Tips:

    • Protect from heavy impacts and dragging objects across it.

    • Wipe spills immediately, especially oil and acidic substances.

Porcelain is extremely durable and resistant to most damage, but a few precautions help maintain its finish:

    Cleaning:

    • Use warm water with dish soap or a general surface cleaner. Low/ neutral pH products are acceptable for use.

    • Avoid wax-based or oil-based products that can leave a residue.

    Heat & Scratches:

    • Highly heat-resistant, but use trivets to prevent potential surface discoloration.

    • While very scratch-resistant, avoid using metal scourers or sharp objects directly on the surface.

    Stains:

    • For tougher marks, use a non-abrasive cream cleanser.
